Born in Enugu State Nigeria to parents from Ogwashi-Uku, Delta State, Augustine Okocha is a former a attacking midfielder and professional football player.
Okocha holds an impressive 18-year career which took him across Europe. Remembered for his brilliance, creativity and technique, he is arguably one of the greatest Nigerians players of all time, winning 74 caps for Nigeria, after making his debut in 1993.
Okocha was never won the African Footballer of the Year, despite coming runner up twice in 1996 and 1998, but he won the maiden BBC African Footballer of the Year, and retained the title in the following year; the only player to do so.
Married to his wife Nkechi, with whom he has two children, Okocha retired from football in 2008, but features quite prominently in charity/exhibition matches across the world when invited.
