DR Congo top aide dies as South Africa tops continent’s cases


The third person to die of Covid-19 complications in the Democratic Republic of Congo is Jean-Joseph Mukendi wa Mulumba, a respected human rights lawyer.

Mulumba until his demise, is the acting head of President Félix Tshisekedi’s legal advisory council, and is believed to have contracted the respiratory illness during his trip to France for a medical check-up.

Meanwhile, South Africa is now the worst hit country on the African continent with 709 confirmed cases although with no deaths, followed by Egypt with 456 cases and 21 deaths, and Algeria with 302 cases and 21 deaths.

Across Africa, 43 of its 54 countries now have cases, with the total at 1,788, while Thirteen countries have reported a total of 58 deaths.

On a global scale, Coronavirus Cases as at press time, rise to 471,802 with 114,703 recovered and 21,297 deaths.
