FIFA to ‘stand firm’ on women’s access to football matches

World football governing body, FIFA, has stated that it will “stand firm” in ensuring women have access to all football matches in Iran.

FIFA says it has been “assured” by the Iranian authorities that women will be able to attend matches.

FIFA’s affirmation came after Sahar Khodayari, known as ‘blue girl’ set fire to herself outside court last month as she awaited trial for trying to attend a match disguised as a man, because of the team she supported.

Until recently, Women had been banned from stadiums when men are playing after the 1979 Islamic revolution.
