The policy which will begin in the UK “within a week”, while other region begin later, will also be unable to match their own database of prospective voters targeting individuals across other platforms such as YouTube and Google search.
The Campaigns which is a subtle restriction compared to Twitter which announced it will disallow political advertising altogether, will however still be able to target based on age, gender and location.
Unlike Facebook also, Google confirms that it will take action on obviously misleading statements in adverts.
Mark Zuckerberg had told a hearing committee that Facebook would not fact-check advertising from political candidates or campaigns, as it was an infringement on constitutional rights.
