J.J. Okocha settles tax evasion charge, as Prosecutor files notice of discontinuance

A Lagos State Prosecutor, Mrs Y. A. Pitan, has prayed an Igbosere High Court, for an adjournment to enable her file a notice of discontinuance of the charge against Super Eagles legend, Austin JayJay Okocha.

The former Super Eagles’ Captain, was prosecuted on a 3-count tax evasion charge for failure to furnish returns of income for tax purposes with the Lagos Internal Revenue Service (LIRS), and failure to pay income tax since 2017.

But prosecutors have now confirmed that the football star had finally settled his debts, as both parties apparently settled out of court.

Justice Adedayo Akintoye of the court, consequently, withdrew the warrant of arrest earlier issued on the defendant, and adjourned further hearing until November 14, to enable prosecution file notice of discontinuance of the charge.
