Nigeria’s covid-19 cases now over 25,000

latest figures from the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) show that Nigeria has recorded 566 new cases of COVID-19, bringing the total number of infections in the country to 25,133.

The 594 new confirmed cases were from 20 states, with 14, 243 cases now active, 9,402 cases treated and discharged, 122,155 samples collected while 573 deaths were recorded as at late yesterday.

Lagos-166, Oyo-66, Delta-53, Ebonyi-43, Plateau-34, Ondo-32, Abuja-26, Ogun-25, Edo-24, Imo-15, Bayelsa-13, Benue-12, 11 each in Gombe-Kano-and Kaduna, Osun-8, Nasarawa-7, Borno-5, and 2 each in Katsina and Anambra.

The NCDC maintains that in the absence of a vaccine to prevent COVID-19, Nigerians must focus on non-pharmaceutical interventions such as using face masks, physical distancing and frequent hand washing, just as it decried the increasing use of face shield alone without facemasks by Nigerians.
